Ultimately I want to bring all of my talents to bear: My relentless pursuit of social change, my faith in the human condition, and in its capacity to renew itself, my desire to communicate to others with empathy and hope through my writing, my love for the troubled (in myself and others). I’ve come to some considered conclusions: punishment doesn’t work, pacifism without activism is cowardice and the ability to be compassionate is something hard earned and worthwhile. But I need a place to put my ideas into practice. I need a forum to provide an opportunity to explore and theorize and support my idealism. A place to get experience and methodology. A place where I can find individuals working together for a greater good. A place to exercise both my vocation as well as my romanticism.

scenes of racialization (are everywhere)

Every week I hold an orientation session for the newly incarcerated inmates at Auburn Correctional Facility, the nation’s oldest continually operating maximum security prison. My task is to inform the men of what mental health does and can do in their lives should they need it. But I look at the 25 or 30 black and brown faces each Monday morning (and the 3 or 4 white ones) and instead I tell them the truth about the reality they are facing. In five years after they leave prison 77% of them will… Continue

Republicans fall back strategy (impeach Trump)

Posted on August 2, 2016 at 6:47am 4 Comments

Craven republicans unmoved by any inclinations towards decency (denouncing The Donald's actions/words/history) now seem satisfied with Pence from Indiana- who is as witless as he is insensitive. "Make America White Again" looks stronger after this addition... For more info access ny political maven in the know:

American Racism Manifesto

by Matt Moore

I.      Introduction - Significance of Race in America

The United States of America was founded on the principles of race.  Race is a socio-biological

concept created by white Europeans to make themselves the higher race over those of the

indigenous peoples that they encountered during the period of European colonization and

imperialism. Race is an institution, a systemic order that benefitted white Europeans and put…

Roland Teed was some kind of mixed breed, a veritable freak in our high school of whitebread plainness.  Two years my senior, half Chinese, but broad shouldered with bowed legs and about my height, Roland was already an adult.  When he stalked the halls of our school he was usually tailed by one or two nondescript guys who’d grin and flinch everytime Roland said something.  There was talk he practiced martial arts.  Previously I had no occasion to think much upon him or his…

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
