"Funny thing about satire is that a lotta people don't get it. In 1974 this Randy Newman ditty was on every Honky Tonk jukebox in Texas, and most people enthusiastically sang along with the chorus, without understanding the put down; or…"
"In school I had a black friend who was waiting for me for as my grandmother was coming to pick me up. She was what I call an absent-minded racist meaning she would use a phrase like "chocolate drop" and not think anything about it. I…"
"detective me has ascertained that the Lofa along with the full head of shining curls and the tight six pack indicates the early trig hound dog phase, whereas the clam scented splintery table would be the more advanced degenerate trig phase. "
King Donnie god, you is the bestest thing ever happen to this country! You brought freedom to us haters like we never not had before! Hot dang, this must be what it felt like for them slaver-owners back in the good ol'… Continue
I wasn't done hanging out with you, man. I had plans, for that mythical time when times would stabilize in my life and I'd drive up there and we'd visit Tink and drink beer and pass out in the thorn bushes. I loved having that in my back pocket. Instead, you went to robot heaven where… Continue

Agreed, with one or two qualifiers. We R fucked, have been for quite some time, if you believe what Sheldon Wolin says in Democracy, Inc, and it's kinda hard not to if you have a couple brain cells to rub together. Now, as to how and why we got to where we are... do you really think the American people are self loathing? Self loathing presupposes some level of self awareness, the ability to understand why one does the things one does or at.least to understand that those things are bad, but after observing Americans for decades, my take on us is that we tend to be - in effect, when viewed collectively, even though quite a few of us are perfectly nice as individuals - smug, complacent, selfish, vicious motherfuckers and a whole lot of other stuff too, but aside from some bleating immediately after 9 1 1 to the effect of "why do they hate us?" I haven't noticed much if any handwringing or introspection about who and how we are, still less any genuine sense of guilt or self-hatred for the atrocities daily committed in our name so we can have more Bluetooth speakers and 2017 V8 Dodge Challengers and carrier battle groups and all the other rewards attendant on generating the world's grossest national product.
