Say My Name: The Strange 5

Posted on July 6, 2015 at 4:09pm 7 Comments

My counselor at Sound Mental Health called today to reschedule my appointment. She had a family emergency and we had to cancel last time. So, we reset it for this Thursday and she said she would call DSHS about the never ending stream of paperwork that never seems to make it where it's supposed to go thus making my frequent appearance repeatedly…

The Gay Gatsby: Marne, Love on The Lake

From my second novel, Marne, 2011, unpublished. (some of my friends back then called it the Gay Gatsby) Happy Pride!

And so that year, I saw Marne every afternoon. Together with our friends, we decided to summer in Puget Sound, the San Juans. There we swam in the sunset and sat in front of…

Romancing The Caregiver

Posted on May 28, 2015 at 11:30am 6 Comments

In the last few days I've had to reckon with my own bias toward amputees. I love one, I live with one, and I almost never talk about the reality of that, as if that too, should be hidden. J and I have known each other a little over four years and we've been together for almost a year and a half.

In the sense of J being an amputee, it began as all romances do, playfully…

Step Inside The Homeless View: Modern Internment

From inside the main shelter at DESC, one used to be able to see into the windows of Smith Tower.  I guess the workers realized, after many years, there was a shelter there and sought to close off the view.

“…one of the hardest things to endure was the communal latrines, with no partitions; and showers with no stalls.” Rosie…

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
