Profile Information

Rob lives in Floyd, Virginia with his wife Michele and their two sons, Preston and Cooper. Still a card-carrying actor, they moved to Floyd to own and run a restaurant. Don't ever do that. Now out of the restaurant business, Rob is teaching and writing and pondering, always, the vagaries of life.

And so now we know - or perhaps we always did - that this is just the tip of the iceberg.  The NYTimes (the "failing" NYTimes as Trump likes to say) along with the Huffington Post is reporting on Big Bill's many payouts, or rather Fox's many payouts, to various women who have sued him for harassment in one form or another, though usually "sexual." With regard to this I did Facebook Message O'Reilly and asked him just what part/aspect of him he thinks women find attractive?  It's a mystery to…

Bill O'Reilly's comments regarding Maxine Waters truly sum up this new era we've invited ourselves into.  After all, we elected a man who denigrates the handicapped, people of color, women, religious groups and, minorities in general.  He and his administration have clearly demonstrated that the rules that govern the rest of us - or at least OUGHT to - DO NOT APPLY.  Our democracy, our society that some rush to defend as "class-less"  is showing its true, privileged colors.  Billionaires,…

A hummingbird in the garage

No, not parked alongside the car

but hovering, frantically (they are frantic creatures)

Inches from the ceiling. It is darting back and forth

Against the white expanse as though a portal to

The natural world might appear but, actually, two very large

Portals, the open garage doors are there, just there

A few feet below where it - oh come on! -

Will not go.

Though I have no way of determining the…

It took me decades to stop wearing my father's underwear.  I asked my therapist the significance of that fact.  He's still working on it.

            Let me explain:

I don't mean that for years, on up into my adult life, I was, at any time, wearing my father's actual underwear.  If that were so I wouldn't be asking my therapist about it.  I would be living at my therapists, curled up at night on the waiting room carpet and doing little chores during the day, like…

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
