Patrick Frank commented on Patrick Frank's blog post My letter to USA Today on the Charleston massacre
"This was, IMO, an act of unspekable brutality, largely motivated by racism, by a very sick individual. But the fact that it occurred in a place of worship underscores the sickness and hatred embodied in this individual."

"Yes Jonathan it did.  It's like saying that a group in a Temple working on "race relations" and who were then murdered there, that their murder had nothing to do with their being Jews."

Jonathan Wolfman commented on Patrick Frank's blog post My letter to USA Today on the Charleston massacre
"Let's be clear: the sole reason this happened at a church had nothing at all to do w Christianity, nor even with churchs. It had to do w a place this man knew black people would be without weapons of their own. "

"There comes a point at which people on the right should say Enough, this is utterly beyond the possibility of approval, sometimes racism is blatantly real. My father gave me many pieces of advice. One was: Always admit the obvious."

Terry McKenna commented on Patrick Frank's blog post My letter to USA Today on the Charleston massacre
"We also need conservative politicians to denounce the anger and rage from right wing media figures.  This rage - however much an act by the perpetrators, is taken to heart by the people who diet on Fox and Rush.  It is time to stop."

Responding to a serious problem

A serious problem requires a serious response. "Turning a blind eye" simply allows the problem to fester and perhaps become critical and beyond the reach of help.

The Search for a Pathway Leading to Deep Inside

The search for a way inside

a place where the soul can't hide

Many pathways of the mind lead in

but which one is right you me

or you

The silence leads me in

The sound of the cicada leads me in

The music leads me in,

right now Jackson Browne

but other artists, too

Displaying courage

in the face of oppression

leads me in

A good joke leads me in…

I would rather create than sit and wait

I would rather keep on trying than succumb

To fate

I don’t believe in fate

Any more than I believe

In the power of hate

Lately I’ve been feeling

We are at the end of night

Lately I’ve been sensing

We are on the verge of rising

To some new height

So don’t allow apathy and cynicism

To shroud the that light that exists

Within your…

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
