In the United States, today is Veterans' Day. Tonight in my town, the second largest parade of the year will take place whether it is wet or dry, cold or pleasant (although last year, for the first time ever, it was rained out). It is the Veterans' Day Parade. It is always held on November 11th, regardless of what day of the week that is.

Helen Thomas died this past week. I met her in 2003. She came to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) as a speaker for the Arts and Issues series. I was at a Trivia Night at church a couple of weeks before. Our table was doing OK, but suddenly my name was called during a break as a winner of an attendance prize.
