This One Takes the Fruit Cake

Last week, I read a Daily Kos article about a political fund-raising email that made me feel like one of those cartoon characters that get hit by a rake handle and stand there exaggeratedly vibrating for several seconds afterwards:  Sproing!

Thanks to Heidi Herron’s many excellent posts about living in Scott Walker’s Wisconsin and his own actions in office and his news coverage, we at Open Salon and Our Salon now know Scott Walker is a world-champion weasel. A weasel who…

Settling in Here at Picasso Terrace

Now that I’ve moved and life is calming down again, I have an actual office / studio, here at Picasso Terrace. Life is good! My new home is superior to my old one in almost every way imaginable—more space and larger rooms, more storage, nice views, a much better kitchen, natural daylight.  It also helps that where I’m living, I’m not right by the swimming pool, nor do I have all the local kids playing right outside my office/bedroom windows.

            I have to admit…

On Wednesday July 31st, my eyes popped open at 5 something am, and I knew there would be no return to sleep for me. For the rest of the day, adrenaline was going to have to keep me going.  Once again, it was Offer Day. I was as apprehensive as some humble shepherd of the ancient world, wondering my sheep’s entrails were going to be enough to secure the favor of the domestic Gods that day.  I got through the morning, all right. Offers weren’t due until 2pm—no need…

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
