After a 25-year career in corporate public relations, I retired early with plans to see the world. Instead, I saw the halls of despair as the Great Recession devoured my nest egg in 2009. I turned to blogging to help work through the doldrums and to share whatever knowledge I could with others going through similar hells. I write about my personal history, politics and current affairs.

Christmas Nostalgia

I would give almost anything to experience just one more time the joy and anticipation of Christmas I felt as a child.  That was a time when it was okay to believe in magic; that this portly old dude in red velvet could perform feats that boggled the youngest of minds.

My family made all kinds of magic, far above and beyond the call of duty.  On this Christmas Eve in my childhood the house would be devoid of all decorations – no wreaths, no tree, no presents, no nothing.  It was just…

Many of you might remember Chauncey DeVega from our Open Salon days.  He was a "fan" favorite of the resident conservatives there.  NOT!

I thought you might enjoy reading his interview with the two young Black Lives Matter people who earned the wrath of the First Dude hopeful in Philadelphia several days ago.    …

Thanks, Lin. You are right, this is a swell place for writers. I have been starving for a new forum, and  Alysa S. recommended this site.

Monster review of Lincoln, too.

Hi Lezlie,

Good to see you here.

I have heard Elijah several times with different orchestras, but this one played by the Atlanta orchestra is one of the best.

There was a life performance with Helmut Rilling conducting in a cathedrale in Zwiefalten.

Those two are of brilliance, and neither one seems to be available for sale.

A soprano performer and conductor told me that some performances are available to members* of the performance only. (*e.g.H.Rilling)

The Atlanta double CD I saw on Amazon,US,and I have asked friends to try to buy it in the US,but it is not available in retail stores.

Thank you for your information.

Hi,Lezlie, when the name "Atlanta"appears,I wonder if you know about a famous orchestra which has performed "Elijah" with excellent soloists.I have tried several times to order the CD.There is no official outlet.
