Dream Sequence: We are all going to die!

Posted on April 17, 2015 at 8:30pm 9 Comments

I woke up at 830 tonight from one of those "I am about to die" dreams. I had fallen asleep around 600 after a day I took off work to put my apartment together. My dear friend from college was coming to visit for the weekend but she had to cancel at the last minute.

In the dream I was in a concourse or a food court area. I had been moving around from place to place as I was waiting for something to happen. There weren't many people in this space. Finally, I settled in to a…

Relationship PTSD

Posted on December 24, 2013 at 10:26am 2 Comments

So I went on a date last night for the first time since my divorce. I separated in August of 2010 from a guy I had known since childhood. In college, I may have gone on two actual getting-to-know-you dates, which apparently aren't memorable enough for me to get a firm count.

I met "Charles" at a Winter Solstice party held by the Houston Atheist's Association. So, basically, we met at a bar. He's a former Jehovah's Witness who had a great many intelligent things to say about why…

Not sure yet what to think of it

It's my Dad's hair, my Uncle's hair and my PawPaw's hair.

No, I'm not related to Lyle Lovett...that I know of.

Yes it had always been curly, but not that curly.

I like it because it's different, I hate it because I have to gel it into submission every…

Brave New World

I am no longer in the fishbowl.

The fishbowl being my term for life as a cancer patient. An invisible thing, but a barrier separating you from those who are not experiencing anything close to what you are experiencing. It even has a distorting effect on how you see the world much like a fishbowl would.

Patients themselves seem to be aware that we are not one lump of generalized experience; we each have our own fishbowls, and we ask about each others' experiences knowing they…

Feel like I just ran away from a bad relationship. He says he's changed, is acting a little better, but I'm feeling it's just a load of empty promises...No it won't get better and he'll be back to his same old crap and bogging me down and holding me back. Tried to leave once before, but it's that damned familiarity that sent me back to him. All my friends were there with him. Need to make new friends and see who else has left the collective Bad Boyfriend.

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
