Big Green and Big Carbon

Posted on May 24, 2013 at 12:48pm 1 Comment

By Daniel Rigney

A recent Houston Chronicle editorial deplores the power of “Big Green,” described as “the well-funded environmental lobby that stands foursquare against any fossil fuels development.”

I’ve heard of Big Business, Big Government, Big Oil, Big Pharma, and even Big Data, but this is the first I’ve heard of Big Green.

cross-posted to Open Salon (Danagram)

We earthlings think and speak in clichés, those little cultural expressions we string together like colored beads to form strands of effortless thought.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

We couldn’t have survived as long as we have without our human treasury of clichés, platitudes, catch phrases, slogans and the like. These are the common…

Fixing Our Broken Cliché System

By Daniel Rigney

We human beings think almost entirely in clichés. We can’t help ourselves. Like scratched grooves on a vinyl record (remember those?), we repeat the same familiar expressions over and over and over and over and over. When others speak them back to us, we call them conventional wisdom.

How much longer can we tread the tired neural pathways of the past? How much longer can deny that our antiquated cliché systems are…

Launcher, shipper, creator and healer of cancers.

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
