Profile Information

Bay Area native but now in Western Colorado. Have traveled some. Worked 30 or so jobs. At age 40 I got tired of people callng me crazy and got a second M.A. degree so I could sit on the other side of the desk and decide if they were crazy. I hope to learn to write better than I do.

                                                            ON BECOMING ILLITERATE

If the definition of being illiteracy is “unable to read or write in any language” I am inexorably moving in that direction. In fact I can barely read or write now. I’m typing this as a Word document using 22-point type and a seven-power magnifier close at hand. I make lots of typos and despite using spell check some of them escape my being reminded what books matter to me rarely matter to…

The Transpaent Pathology of Donald Trump

Posted on May 11, 2017 at 11:50pm 2 Comments

Those of us who pointed out what a malignant narcissist Donald Trump is were not wrong. So much of his seeming puzzling behavior is readily explained once we understand this is a very rigid, limiting behavior pattern his disorder has him trapped in.

Authoritarian leaders seek total control. He believes he has the power to define truth and reality. “Truth is whatever I say it is! My assertion makes it so!” followed by “If I don’t admit it’s real, it’s not!” Magic belief in the power of…

MLK’s Continuing Challenge to America: the Need for a Revolution in Values

January 22, 2013

[I have been reposting this for several years on MLK Day because it remains timely and gets to the heart of America's dilemma. In 2015 American military forces dropped over 26, 00 bombs on Muslim-majority countries. Imagine our reaction if they had one that to us! Ye Americans persist in this fantasy of fake innocence:…

The Republicans’ first step towards Making America Great Again:

Bye-Bye Obama care!

(Means: Bye-bye health insurance for 20  million Americans)

Bye-be Medicare!

(Means: Bye-bye health insurance for 45 million aged and 9 million disabled Americans))

Bye-bye Medicaid!

(Means: Bye-bye health insurance for 33 million children, 19 million adults and 17 million aged and disabled)

Bye-bye Social Security!

(Which 65 million…

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
