Reflections Upon the Surface; Unseen Currents

I have been away for a while, because I have been seriously thinking about where the world is going, how to change things, what can be done, how to convince others, etc.  I do this pretty much all the time and have ever since I was a child.  I suppose you can thank an early interest in science fiction and a strong sense of humanity as brothers for my constant observance of our spinning planet and the beings upon it.

Just the other day, though, I had a very mild heart attack.  To be…

You Want to Bully Me?  Get in Line!

Look, I know some people really had it rough with bullies.  Terrible, horrible incidents which make me shudder to think or recall.  I’ve had more than my fair share of bullying, too.  I never experienced anything so shockingly horrific or violent as some of the stories I’ve read; and for that I am grateful in the extreme.

Be that as it may, I have been a bully magnet…

Sunrise Through My Eyes

 Someone recently asked of me,

“Could you provide a fitting soliloquy

Of something that I’d like to see:

The sunrise through your eyes?”

            I said, “I don’t know, but I will try,

            Because there is not a…

(Author’s Note: I started this piece in July of 2012.  I finished it in September 2012, well after Alex passed away.  It took this long to post, because I had gotten extremely ill myself just after finishing this piece.  Those of you who are pet lovers and feel deeply, get your hankies ready. I saw your comment to Jake on the other place and just wanted to say  - Captcha as a security measure was defeated about 4 years ago.  If it worked, it would only delay creation of new accounts.  According to mishima666 - who was a spamcop on Open - there are hundreds to thousands of inactive spam accounts waiting to be brought into play when active accounts are deleted.

All this assumes that Salon Media Group wants to stop the spam.  Available evidence suggests they don't.  Spam traffic and views gets counted with "real" traffic and lets SMG charge higher rates for advertising.  Ask Safe Bet's Amy about her analysis.
