"Arrrrrgh, those Titian-tressed women. Me and Older/Exasperated know all about them ... and nothing about them. Lovely poem. Reminds me of the Tiny Perfect Redhead who has put up with my existence now for 30 years."

"Thank you. The picture is a web grab, but does resemble her greatly. She did not really break my heart so much as indelibly stamp me with hers. ;) Being fourteen is tough."

"First of all, that picture is absolutely gorgeous. I hope you know this girl and sorry if it were she that broke your heart. Now the poem - i loved how it flowed,  drew you in and tied in so nicely with the picture.  Very enjoyable."

Reflections In A Steamed Mirror

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 10:30am 0 Comments

I was in the shower, surrounded by steam,

in the warm, impenetrable wet

that I require, when I remembered

the excursion of your hand

on my skin, the idea

of family that you embodied,

the strength of the pull

that brought us together,

still intact

like a city…

It was the eyes that got me, those eyes,

undecided between green or brown,

the transition betwixt and between

a cosmic riot -

galactic nebulae swirls

like pictures from Hubble,

iridescence that caught the light,

played with it like a lazy cat

then loosed upon…

Nursery of Winds

In the glistening of Spring

young winds are born,

hatchling mouth gaping

for frozen bits of thermal carrion,

gleaning what nourishment they can

from the keening of last winter’s gales.

Summertime zephyrs are on their own,

casting themselves in currents of warmth,

deciding from moment to moment

whether they will caress or sting.

They move as they must

for only those most fit

may sail forward into Fall.

Late autumn gales dance in…

As a child, I would ring doorbells

and run off,

leaving tracks of potential,

reciting poetry -

delighted in my ability

to mystify.

School meant diverse

conundrums to solve,

things to prove,

different ways to

be an enigma.

And I mastered every one.

I failed as a bartender

because I would not

learn the meaning

of water down the wine.

It was an Arcanum of spirits.

Gardening was never meant to be.

I argued with the…

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
