Francis I, Pontifex Maximus (a trained chemist):

“Numerous scientific studies indicate that most of the global warming of the past decades is due to the concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxide and others), emitted especially because of human activities…by the development model based on the intensive use of fossil fuels that is at the core of the global energy mode

Cops and Robbers: It's Not That Simple

Koshersalami's blog "That Girl in McKinney" has stirred quite a bit of commentary about the role of police in our society. Clearly what happened there, so incredibly captured by a young girl holding a cell phone camera, has touched a raw nerve among Americans everywhere, not just here. McKinney, TX is mentioned on every news show in the country now. People are finally beginning to question the whole system of…

Has the NFL Gone Rogue?

Posted on October 16, 2014 at 9:30am 0 Comments

As National Football League teams get into high gear this year, the NFL’s once relatively pristine public image is coming under increased scrutiny as scandal after scandal seems to be popping into the front pages and TV news teasers than ever before.

Much of this scrutiny is the result of the recent exposure of certain NFL football players feloniously coldcocking girlfriends or taking…

My son Brendan had been on the lam for months and was living wherever he could with occasional visits here to get some clean clothes. He came back from CA about weeks before, presumably having burnt every bridge he had (to hear him tell the story).

While I was in Ireland he had gotten into my…

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the Support tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the Support tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
