Sorry, I've been away. Living has been a priority

My last essay was called THE QUIET TIME. It was about the night my husband died.

Two days prior, I moved from the continuing care into my own condo. The initial burst of joy that I felt when transitioning from institutional life to my own home was amazing!

WHEN TO WALK AWAY/Family Honor

I was awakened around 5 A.M. today by the sound of male voices yelling and cursing at each other. F You and F That punctuated the argument. Other words and phrases that volleyed back and forth between the combatants made me realize that this confrontation was extremely personal.

“My mother is what?”

“She’s a whore.”

“If you touch her again I’ll kill you.”

“She was hanging around the bar until it…

HALF A WIDOW/ The Quiet Time

My husband died on Sunday morning, June seventh. It was expected. His struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia was over. Alzheimer’s won. It always does.

In one respect I have been alone these past two years, however his physical presence remained with me until this past December when I could no longer manage his care in our apartment.

He went from a memory care unit to a hospital and then to a nursing home where he spent the rest of his life. He hated every minute of his…

ALZHEIMER'S ON THE ATTACK AGAIN.

Posted on March 13, 2015 at 5:00am 18 Comments

My life is shattered again by the faceless horror that has attacked my husband pushing him into the next phase of his dementia. He is terrified and incoherent. Although he is living in a memory care facility, I am still on call and responsible for his welfare. He fell again last night. I was just asleep when the phone rang. “ Your husband is all…

"Anne! You've been through a lot. The body is a circus. It sounds as if you've surfaced and are beginning to swim. At this age, for me it's all about the food. I went to the farmers market today and bought a bag of organic peaches that…"

"I am also ridiculously glad to see you! I'm sorry you've had such a rough time of it. :( And I'm glad that your family was there to advocate for you on the medicines, today's doctors over-prescribe for everything. Take care."

What I used to do or who I was, is no longer relevant. I am still evolving. Once whole, I am now less. Once a child, I am now an orphan. Once the mother of a daughter, I am bereft. Once married I am now a widow. I write about these things.

Also, you will notice all the emails your getting from comments on blogs and such. Easy to consolidate into one daily email. Go to "settings" in the top right hand corner and it should take you to "email" click on that. Kinda can't remember exact steps but it's easy. There is a forum on this also.

Play around. If you click on the members tab it shows all of us. Many are still using their OS names but with different pictures, some are using their real names which may be confusing. If you have any problems navigating, hit up Lorianne, check out the FAQs and the forums. You can friend and I actually posed the question why, as I didn't see a purpose. Still kinda don't, but I know there are reasons some may want to. You can also pretty up your page with cool stuff like pictures and different themes. Good luck!
